My summer started with Close-Up Summer Solstice. It is basically a 12 hour of non-stop party with Afrojack, Alex Gaudino, Cobra Starship, Dev, Cedric Gervais, Apster, Jumpsmokers, Sandwhich, Spongecola, and Urbandub. 10 artist in one night? Yes, that’s right. Wait, before that I’m going to tell you how I got my self a free ticket.
So a week before the Solstice, I signed up to this twitter game. Free Gold tickets giveaway. Since it’s free, I gave it a shot. Wala naman mawawala kung sasali ako diba? And you know what happened. I won! 2 free tix for me! I was screaming for joy that day. Well, screaming silently since it’s almost midnight that very moment. I thought it was a joke, that it was too good to be true but no, it’s not a joke. I was so lucky that day.
april 27, 2013 was the day. I almost went there alone but good thing I found someone on my contact list that would be happy to spend 12 hours of partying with me. The bad thing is, she arrived late so we miss the first act which is Urbandub! I’m a fan of them, so missing them is pretty bad. I was stoked that day. That is my first ever music festival that I attended. Ah well, when we got to the festival grounds, Spongecola is already playing. Good thing I know some of their songs so I kinda jam with all. Singing at the top of my lungs is something I have been wanting to do, so gotta cross that out on my things-to-do list huh? lol
Yael is so cool. He interacts with his fans. He even Crowd surfed his way to the stage. Seeing it live is damn cool. I though I’ll only see a crowd surfing stunt on MTV’s and movies. another cross out on my list. Wohoo! Next performer is Sandwich. Didn’t much enjoyed them since I’m not a fan and they played their new songs which I haven’t heard of so I just listened to them and just took pictures mostly.
Next on the line is the Electro Pop Stars. I remember how relieved I am that moment. “Finally, time for some real party” Lol. Eh Yung Philippine Rock Heroes kasi di ko masyado naenjoy. I’m more of a Electropo-EDM person. Jumpsmokers is new to me then. I don’t know that there is such artist that exists. I judged them hard I think? Akala ko boring sila. Pero nung tumugtog sila ng mga remixes nila, All hell breaks loose. I jumped, danced, and partied! Not to mention I have a DSLR and a backpack, partying with those on you plus siksikan na place eh hindi ganun kadali. Oh, have I mentioned that DJ Flipside is a Filipino? That’s right guys. He is. The one who is in charge of Jumpsmokers amazing remixes are done by a Filo. I’m so proud I’m a Filipino!
Anyways, the very reason why I wanted to go party at the Solstice is because of Cobra Starship. I want to see Gabe Saporta, I’ve been a fan of him since I was a 2nd year high school. Pretty dope right? Pero DJ Set lang pala ng Cobra ang magpeperform sa Solstice. Nakakalungkot pero okay lang. Cobra Starship pa rin yun. So when they came out, everybody was shouting, all excited to party with the Cobra’s! Kaso at their set, mejo sumama yung pakiramdam ko(gutom siguro.lol), we took a break. Dined at MOA and relaxed for a bit. We waited for Afrojack before we went back. We stayed at the bay, talked some and made some fun of the others. We are mean, I know. Haha!!
Afrojack is the meanest, baddest, coolest, hottest EDM artist ever! I don’t want to miss him perform, I love all of his works. I can’t believe there is a side of me that is a party animal. Didn’t know that till the Summer Solstice. I raved when he started playing his songs. I didn’t cared that day if I have a drink in my hand and still dancing. That is the coolest thing ever. I easily got lost in the music, I mean who wouldn’t? I bet anyone who listens to his songs feels like dancing, well because that is how good his songs are. EDM is not EDM without Afrojack (and Avicii, and Benny Benasi, and, fuck of course there are many great EDM artist as well.) But I personally think Afrojack is different. Haha!
Ah I’m not going into details about what happened next. I’m just going to tell you that Close Up Summer Solstice is epic! Saying that I enjoyed it is an understatement. I don’t know how much I had fun. It is in fact, the greatest party ever. I just hope they make Summer Solstice an annual thing. I’m excited about next year. Can’t wait to party with you guys again!
Everybody throw your hands up!
Dev is hot!
